Healthy Habits to stay Healthy

Being healthy is the key to longevity. The following are some steps to take to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

 

1) Eating right. 

Eating right is essential. The food we eat has a direct impact on our physical, mental, and emotional health. Food gives us energy, calories and nutrients we need to survive. Healthy intake gives the body all the essential nutrients it needs to function well. But what exactly is healthy eating? Here are some of the basics tips that can get us started on the path to a healthy eating lifestyle:

i) Do not skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Stick to food that is enriched with vitamins and minerals. Shy away from fat and cholesterol rich food. Research recommends that eating breakfast regularly in the day might help reduce the risk of heart disease and helps weight loss.

ii) Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.

iii) Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.

iv) Say no to sugar. Eating too much sugar will lower the immune system, increase destructive inflammation, and lead to essential mineral deficiencies in the body.

 

2) Exercise regularly. 

Regular exercise is necessary for physical fitness and good health. It reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases. It can improve appearance and delay the aging process.

 

3) No drinking and smoking. 

Eliminate bad habits that are proven to take a toll on health. Smoking cigarettes or drinking too heavily on a regular basis are both habits that need to be stopped. Both have very serious health effects which only worsen over time.

 

4) Maintain healthy social lifestyle 

Physical health is the balanced integration of body, mind and spirit, in such, we need to balance all aspects of life, including socialization and leisure time. In fact, the easiest, cheapest way to accentuate health is to maintain close friendships and strong social support networks.

The Importance of Balance Diet

balanced diet refers to a selection of foods with appropriate portion to provide adequate nutrients and energy for the growth of body tissues, strengthening the immune system, and keeping a healthy body weight. Apart from drinking enough water daily, eat according to the "Food Pyramid" to stay healthy.

 

A common healthy chinese meal consists of rice or rice related product. Rice vermicelli is a good substitute for rice. A simple rice vermicelli dish (stir fry or soup dish) with lots of vegetables and moderate amount of meat can kick off you day with a healthy start.

 

Eat a lot of:

 

Grains and Cereals 

(e.g. Rice, vermicelli, noodles, bread, biscuits, cereals, whole- grain products) Rich in starch, plant protein and moderate amounts of vitamin B and minerals. Main source of energy.

 

Vegetables 

(e.g. Green leafy vegetable, mushrooms, eggplant)  

Rich in carotene, vitamin A and C and various minerals, able to strengthen the immune system and promote metabolism.Rich in fibre, which increases satiety, helps lower body cholesterol and prevents constipation.

 

Fruits 

(e.g. Grapes, orange, apple, pear)  

Dark green leafy vegetables (Chinese flowering cabbage, Chinese white cabbage, kale and broccoli etc) compared with other vegetables are rich in calcium, which can strengthen teeth and maintain healthy bones.
